Gatherings to welcome and farewell our guest were bookended by the Queensland State Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade.
DFAT's Queensland office, led by the outgoing Derek Brown and ably supported by 'the other Matt' (Harrison), Carolyn and the team, has graciously hosted the 'Leichhardt Roundtable' gatherings throughout the whole two years of the 12-month Leichhardt Bicentenary project.
It was apt that a still mildly-jet-lagged Ludwig could meet many of the Roundtable members - who had helped make this visit a reality - a couple of days after his arrival in Brisbane. It was even more fitting that he could farewell the same people as firm new friends at a DFAT luncheon the day before he returned to Germany.
In between, ACE (the Australian Council for Europe) and GABA (the German Australian Business Association) held a special evening BBQ at Parliament House in honour of our distinguished guest.
