On the special occasion of the 25th anniversary of Der Tag der Deutschen Einheit (German Unification Day), our special guest found himself in good company in Brisbane, on the far side of the world from Berlin.
Old Government House - among the oldest colonial buildings in Brisbame - on the grounds of QUT's Gardens Point campus is the traditional venue for this celebratory gathering. The 2014 event was especially poignant for Queensland's German community.
It not only marked a quarter-century since the fall of the Berlin Wall but was also distinguished by the presence of Ludwig Leichhardt on the 170th anniversary of the start of his ancestor's "great overland expedition" across Queensland and northern Australia.
Matching the entertainment on the night, the King of Cakes catering team delivered its usual stellar performance, surpassed only by its principal's (not entirely) unexpected appearance late in the formalities ....

|The opportunity to gather for a formal group photo at such events can be brief and limited - especially
if Wolfgang Kelke from King of Cakes is of a mind to 'Photobomb' the moment - but the important thing
is to keep going regardless ... (Fotos: Tuba Media Productions and eyewitnesses)
