'Leichhardt Trail' tour
Hunter Valley bushwalk
Leichhardt's early travels around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, in 1842-43, have been overshadowed by his great exploit across northern Australia. You can revisit the sites and scenes of his early explorations in Mt Royal National Park, about 50km north of Singleton. Callicoma Eco-cabins and local historian/naturalist Martin Fallding invite visitors to come for a walk in Ludwig's footsteps, through world heritage forest in the spectacular Barrington Tops wilderness region. Dawson River Festival
Fun-filled Spring days of activities rolled through the Dawson River towns of Taroom, Theodore, Moura and Baralaba during September 2013. Taroom's turn is from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th.
There's a definite Leichhardt theme this year, along the river named by the explorer almost 170 years ago. Art, photography, fashion, horseracing, golf, bowls and outdoor sports for kids of all ages complement the festival markets on the Sunday.
An easy six-hour drive from Brisbane, on the Warrego and Leichhardt Highways, in LeichhardtLand!
